history

More than 500 people and two dozen hungry goats came to University City Partners' first sustainability festival, Green Goats and Gardens, in 2010.

University City Partners work in progress

University City Partners has laid out a broad and deep work plan for the continued transformation of University City into a transit-supported urban center. Here are our initiatives for 2010-2011.

Marketing efforts

  • Launching a full-scale advertising campaign to highlight University City’s many positive attributes
  • Redesigning the newest website to be more oriented toward University City and its amenities as well as more visual and interactive
  • Sponsoring and/or originating events that emphasize major assets including our international community, our innovation and our sustainable/green attributes
  • Enhancing all communication efforts from public relations and social media to an updated e-newsletter and an enlarged catalog of images

Economic Developments

  • Supporting our businesses by producing brochures, promotional activities and website resources
  • Finding additional ways to interact with brokers and economic recruiters to attract new businesses to University City
  • Increasing the depth and types of demographic data available to support outside requests
  • Educating people on the economic value of University City - and especially UNC Charlotte - to the Charlotte region

Offering Transportation Choices

  • Working with Charlotte Area Transit System to support its efforts to build the entire mass-transit network
  • Articulating the need for extending Charlotte's Blue Line light-rail line to University City
  • Making sure that construction of the “weave” does not harm North Tryon and other area entities
  • Staying in touch with North Carolina's transportation department as it works to complete the I-485 outer belt through University City
  • Supporting Mecklenburg County's greenway initiatives
  • Exploring additional ways to bring needed sidewalks, crosswalks and other means of increasing bicycle and pedestrian access in University City
  • Assisting Charlotte and state transportation officials on meeting on the transportation needs spelled out in both the University City Area Plan and the just adopted University Research Park Area Plan
